Fatwa is a formal Islamic legal opinion or ruling issued by a qualified scholar (Mufti) in response to a question posed by an individual or group seeking guidance on matters related to faith, worship, personal conduct, or social issues.
Fatwas are rooted in the Qur’an, the Sunnah (Prophetic traditions), and the scholarly consensus (Ijma‘) of the Islamic legal tradition. They are non-binding and context-sensitive, meaning they take into consideration the circumstances, school of thought (madhhab), and local realities of the questioner.
